New Creative Writing Resources from Home Ground!

WHOOP WHOOP! WE MADE SOME NEW RESOURCES AND THEY ARE GORGEOUS!

Thanks to a new Giving Circle in Pōneke, we've been able to put together a couple of awesome little pukapuka! The Giving Circle is a newly established group supporting local non-profit community activation groups, who generously offered to support our mahi. Our kaupapa was aligned with their mission, and they funded us to design and print two beautiful new resources based on creative writing and tools and techniques for your imagination.

These beautiful resource books will be included in the remote packs we send to women inside Arohata and Christchurch Women's Prison, as well as used in our community mahi.

Our amazing artists

The creative content was crafted by the incredible Ruby Solly. Ruby developed a creative writing guide that's perfect for self-directed exploration, then, just to be super awesome, created our little mini pocket guide to creating your own Mind Castle! Ruby also created the illustrations for both.

These pukapuka were brought to life by design wizz Anna Wooles! Anna has created many of our fabulous resources, so it was exciting when she was able to do these two as well. Anna has a special knack for making things feel like Home Ground, and so these two pukapuka feel right at home alongside everything else she's created for us.

Get Out of Your Head and Write It Instead

This is a creative writing guide filled with ideas and prompts to get you writing. You can work through the activities in any order, take as little or as much time as you need, and make them your own. We are so excited to see how they go out there in the world!

Mind Castle

This is an imagined space you can access in your mind to help solve problems, remember things, or simply experience a bit of joy and relaxation.

"It's kind of like meditating, but you are more active in it...rather than letting thoughts pass you by, you're controlling the environment you're in and what you experience, inside your mind..." - Ruby

These pukapuka are a much needed addition to our little library of creative resources. Any resource that gives someone an opportunity to create a mind castle, write something down, imagine somewhere else, or simply escape for a moment feels pretty special and needed for many of us.

A massive mihi to the Giving Circle for the pūtea, patience and support that made these pukapuka possible - to Ruby for her mad talented writing skills, and Anna for her design wizz magic!

We rely on all the tautoko we can get to do this mahi. So, a huge mihi to all the people, whānau, funders and crews who continue to support small NGOs to deliver kaupapa that matters - especially in what is a pretty tough funding time right now.

MAURI ORA!
