This year is election year - 7 November! If you can, we encourage y'all to enrol, get informed, and use your voice. Because your voice matters! This government has made a number of changes to the law around voting this year, and there’s one change that we whole heartedly don’t agree with. The law now says this: if you are in prison, you cannot vote if your sentence is more than three years, OR if your sentence is under three years but your offending happened on or after 20 December 2025.

This is the year we vote for the people and parties who will represent us in Parliament and form our next government. Election Day is 7 November 2026 - so it’s not far away. Over the next wee while, we are aiming to share more kōrero about why voting matters, how it all works, and what it all really means for us and our communities.

Recently a few of us headed to Parliament for the first time to watch and listen to the first reading of the move-on orders legislation. They spoke clearly to what this legislation will do - hit the most vulnerable, the hardest.
