Ōtautahi Prison Projects

Home Ground has been delivering projects in Christchurch Women's Prison, to close the gap for those women who were transferred down there from Arohata Prison during the Department of Corrections response to Covid 19. We have been lucky enough to be able to deliver these projects twice a year.

The Home Ground team have been on a mission to bring creativity and wellbeing into the prison in Ōtautahi. There are some awesome projects going on already (shout out to Jade from Aweko Kai!) but there is never enough when it comes to addressing the impact of incarceration on human beings. We believe in access to nature, time to decompress and quality connection with other wāhine focusing on our strengths.

We always bring our creative practice and our workbooks, but also wanted to weave in some visual arts, creative writing and flower mandalas. We had an epic three days working towards our end pieces, but as always the process is more important than the product. Our product was excellent though! Check it out!
